People don’t believe me when I say I am 42!
I was told recently “French women don’t age”. There may be a French touch. But it has more to do with my habits. Because I am fit, I look young, and people barely believe me when I share that I’m 42.
But in January 2024, things were very different... Then 5 months postpartum with a baby in the hospital, I was in the worst shape I had been in years…

Hi, I’m Jihane 👋🏽
After falling in love with how our cells work, I went into cancer research and pursued a PhD in France. My research brought me in Canada.
I got involved in anti-aging research in 2014, developing gene-therapy to remove senescent cells.
You may know senescent cells as “zombie cells”. They accumulate as we age and mess up with everything in our body.
Research in mice has shown that removing them, results in a more youthful appearance.

I will never forget what I saw in the mice I studied in the lab: their visceral fat was huge. And when I used a dye on it, specific to mark zombie cells (for my fellow nerds out there, Beta-galactosidase), I ran to my boss’ office to show him how it was LOADED with zombie cells, and how efficient our treatment was at clearing them.
I knew at that moment I had stumbled upon a significant discovery.
Visceral fat is loaded with zombie cells and is a massive threat to our health.
This belly fat is a bad actor for aging. It is now well established. But back in 2015, when I ran this proof-of-concept study, it had not been shown yet.
